Soccer Aid 2008
Soccer Aid 2008 was a four-hour live TV event on ITV1. Two teams, 'England' and the 'Rest of the World' battled it out on 7 September. The final score was 4:3 to England.
With Ant and Dec hosting, this year's event took place on the hallowed turf of Wembley Stadium where the crowd were treated to a unique opportunity to see football legends take to the pitch alongside their celebrity counterparts.
Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp stepped up to manage England and his squad included football legends Jamie Redknapp and Alan Shearer, as well as celebrities Craig David, Danny Jone (McFly), Ben Shephard, Gareth Gates, Jamie Theakston, and Jonathan Wilkes. Meanwhile, legendary Scot Kenny Dalglish took charge of the Rest of the World and players included Brian Lara, Alastair Campbell, Westlife’s Nicky Byrne, Patrick Kielty, Jaap Stam, Paolo Di Canio and Romario.
Gordon Ramsay returned to captain Rest of the World, but team England had a new skipper, Jonathan Wilkes.
Soccer Aid 2008 raised £1.14 million, exceeding our £1 million target. Thank you to everyone who generously donated.
Funds will be used to support the main areas of UNICEF's work - health, education, nutrition, water, HIV and AIDS and protection for vulnerable children.
